Our Daily Songs

Waldorf pedagogy teaches us to use songs for transitions both to protect the young child’s natural state of wonder and imagination and because commands would be too awakening for the young child. We sing these songs daily during transitions of activities.

Daily Songs

Good morning dear earth, good morning dear sun

Good morning dear trees and flowers, every one

Good morning to the beasties and the birds and the bees

Good morning to you, and good morning to me.

Glad that I live am I, that the sky is blue

Glad for the country lanes and the fall of dew

After the sun the rain, after the rain the sun,

This is the way of life till our work is done.

All that we need to do, be we low or high

Is to see that we grow nearer the sky

Come and join in our small ring

Our small ring, our small ring

Come and join in our small ring

And make it a little bit bigger.

Morning has come, night is away, rise with the sun and welcome the day.

Tidy away, tidy away

We shall no longer play

Snack time is on its way

Tidy away, tidy away.

Would you like to wash your hands?

Wash your hands now!

Wash hands (name), and dry them on the towel!

Soon it’s time to eat our snack so wash your hands now!

Light a little candle light shining light and bright (x3)

Shining light, shining bright, shining light.

Hands everybody, hands everybody,

Hands everybody and blessings on our meal.

No more work and no more play

Every toy is put away

Ended is a lovely day

Then goodnight…

Drink your milk all white and creamy

Have a bath all warm and steamy

Close your eyes all tired and dreamy

Then goodnight…

Through the windows stars are peeping

From their holes the mice are creeping

Your white bed all soft for sleeping

Then goodnight…
